Construction Overview

Caltrain electrification construction activities will take place between the 4th and King Station in San Francisco to Tamien Station in San Jose. Construction activities include locating underground utilities, testing soil conditions, inspecting signal/communication equipment, pruning/removing trees, and installing foundations in preparation for the installation and operation of the Overhead Contact System that will power the new electric trains. Work will be performed during the day and at night. In order to limit the impact to regular train service, night work will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. when there are fewer regular service trains.

San Francisco

On September 14 through September 20, Caltrain will be working during the night to install impedance bonds. Night work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and the field team will work as quietly as possible. During construction motorists and pedestrians may experience intermittent delays while crews move equipment through at-grade crossings.

Brisbane

South San Francisco

On September 14 to September 20, Caltrain will be working during the day to install ductbank, rebar and manholes and perform work on the transformer at the Traction Power Substation facility in the South San Francisco Caltrain Station parking lot. Caltrain will be working during the night to install equipment on poles and install impedance bonds. Day work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Night work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and the field team will work as quietly as possible. During construction motorists and pedestrians may experience intermittent delays while crews move equipment through at-grade crossings.

San Mateo

Caltrain electrification crews have permanently closed parking spaces #322-343 and #412-421 in the southern portion of the Hillsdale Station parking lot in order to construct a paralleling station which will help regulate power to the new electric trains. Parking spaces #344-357 and #390-411, also located in the southern portion of the Hillsdale Station parking lot have been temporarily fenced off in order for crews to install a staging area to support this construction. Belmont

Sunnyvale

On September 14 to September 20, Caltrain will be working during the day to install duct banks and manholes at the Paralleling Station facility and locate underground utilities. Caltrain will be working during the night to install impedance bonds and locate underground utilities. Day work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Night work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and the field team will work as quietly as possible.

Caltrain crews have permanently closed parking spaces #421-436, #452-455, and #458-463 in the northern portion of the Sunnyvale Station parking lot in order to construct a paralleling station which will help regulate power to the new electric trains. Parking spaces #437-441, #456-457, and #464-472, also located in the northern portion of the Sunnyvale Station parking lot, will be temporarily fenced off in order for crews to install a staging area to support this construction. Four (4) ADA parking stalls will be temporarily re-located to the north end of the parking lot adjacent to the northern sidewalk ramp. Santa Clara

On September 14 through September 20, Caltrain will be working during the day to install conduit, locate underground utilities and locate underground utilities at the Santa Clara station. Caltrain will be working during the night to install poles, install conduit, install foundations, install impedance bonds and locate underground utilities. Day work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Night work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and the field team will work as quietly as possible.

Caltrain Electrification crews have begun staging materials and equipment between the Santa Clara Station and the College Park Station in San Jose. Construction staging will occur along the Caltrain right-of-way south of the Santa Clara Station. Caltrain has temporarily closed parking spaces #256-269 and #277-290 at the Santa Clara station for crews to stage equipment. The temporary closures will last until late summer 2019. San Jose

On September 14 through September 20, Caltrain will be working during the day install conduit, locate underground utilities at the San Jose stations, install rebar at the Traction Power Substation facility, and install ductbank and manholes at Paralleling Station facility and perform grading work at the Paralleling Station facility. Caltrain will be working during the night to install poles, install conduit, install foundations, install impedance bonds and locate underground utilities. Day work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Night work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Caltrain Electrification crews have begun staging materials and equipment between the Santa Clara Station and the College Park Station in San Jose. Construction staging will occur along the Caltrain right-of-way south of the Santa Clara Station. Caltrain has temporarily closed parking spaces #256-269 and #277-290 at the Santa Clara station for crews to stage equipment. Work continues getting Caltrain’s Central Equipment Maintenance and Operations Facility (CEMOF) ready for electrification. Modifications to the facility need to be made before the arrival of electric trainsets in order to properly perform maintenance on the vehicles. Work will include excavation and pit lengthening.
