Construction Overview

Caltrain Electrification construction is occurring between the 4th and King Station in San Francisco and Tamien Station in San Jose. Construction activities include locating underground utilities, testing soil conditions, inspecting signal/communication equipment, pruning/removing trees, and installing foundations in preparation for the installation and operation of the Overhead Contact System that will power the new electric trains.

Work will be performed during the day and at night. In order to limit the impact to regular train service, night work will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. when there are fewer regular service trains.

San Francisco

On April 17 to April 23, Caltrain will be working during the day install conduit. Day work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and the field team will work as quietly as possible.

Caltrain is currently constructing two Paralleling Station facilities in San Francisco. To learn more, please visit our Resources page.

During work hours at the 22nd St. station all passengers will board and de-board from the same platforms. Please look for the signs to indicate which platform to use. If you have any questions, feel free to call Caltrain Customer Service at 1.800.660.4287.

Brisbane

Caltrain is currently constructing a Paralleling Station facility at the Bayshore Station parking lot. The Bayshore Station will remain open during construction. To learn more, please visit our Resources page.

South San Francisco

Caltrain is currently constructing a Paralleling Station on the east side of the Caltrain tracks near 1369 North Carolan Avenue. A virtual community meeting was held on February 3 to discuss the construction of the Paralleling Station. To view the presentation, visit our Resources page.

San Mateo

On April 17 to April 23, Caltrain will be working during the day to install conduit. Caltrain will be working during the night to locate underground utilities. Day work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Night work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Caltrain is performing excavation work to install signal conduit along the Caltrain right-of-way between E. Santa Inez Avenue and E Poplar Avenue in San Mateo. Work will take place between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. beginning April 8 and will continue for approximately 10 days. Workdays are Monday through Thursday only, and activities should conclude April 15. Belmont

Unincorporated San Mateo County

On April 17 to April 23, Caltrain will be working during the day to locate underground utilities, install foundations and install conduit. Caltrain will be working during the night to locate underground utilities. Day work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Night work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and the field team will work as quietly as possible.

On April 17 and April 19, Caltrain will be performing potholing and foundation preparation work that will require a temporary closure of the northbound lane of Westmoreland Avenue from Northumberland Avenue to Buckingham Avenue and from Buckingham Avenue to Dumbarton Avenue to vehicle and bicycle traffic. Work will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. April 13 and 16 are contingency dates where work may not occur if it is completed the day prior. To learn more please visit our Resources page.

Atherton

Menlo Park

Caltrain will be working during the night to string wires and install cantilevers on poles and remove abandoned cables. Day work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Night work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and the field team will work as quietly as possible.

During work hours at the Menlo Park station all passengers will board and de-board from the same platforms. Please look for the signs to indicate which platform to use. If you have any questions, feel free to call Caltrain Customer Service at 1.800.660.4287.

Palo Alto

Santa Clara

On April 17 to April 23, Caltrain will be working during the day to prune and remove trees along the project route. Caltrain will be working during the night to install poles, string wires on poles, install cantilevers on poles and remove abandoned cables. Day work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Night work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and the field team will work as quietly as possible.

Caltrain is performing Bridge Barrier installation work in Santa Clara that will require the temporary partial closure of the Lafayette  Street Pedestrian Bridge. To learn more, please visit our Resources page.

Caltrain Electrification crews are staging materials and equipment between the Santa Clara Station and the College Park Station in San Jose. Construction staging will occur along the Caltrain right-of-way south of the Santa Clara Station. Caltrain has temporarily closed parking spaces #256-269 and #277-290 at the Santa Clara station for crews to stage equipment. San Jose

Caltrain will be working during the night to install poles, locate underground utilities and install equipment on the rail. Day work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Night work hours will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and the field team will work as quietly as possible.
