From October 2018 to Spring 2019, Caltrain will perform work on the four train tunnels in San Francisco to pave the way for Caltrain Electrification and to bring the tracks to a state of good repair.
In order to accommodate the new electric trains, crews will create additional clearance and install anchor bolts in the tunnel ceilings to facilitate the installation of the overhead contact system that will power the new electric trains.
Crews will also perform work on the tunnel and tracks to ensure they are in a state of good repair. This includes stabilizing the track bed and improving tunnel drainage. The entrance to the southernmost tunnel will also undergo reconstruction but will maintain its historic xx.
Due to the nature of the construction, there may be temporary, localized noise impacts during construction activities.

The majority of the work will be performed during weekends which will require the closure of Caltrain stations north of Bayshore Station. Supplemental bus service will be provided to 22nd and San Francisco stations during the closures.
